Career Summary
Woodbury is an internationally recognised researcher and consultant in the areas of veterans’ health and military service. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and has published articles in a range of journals, and numerous outlets have featured her work including The Australian, The Canberra Times, and ABC National Radio.
Woodbury has advised, briefed and/or consulted to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs across a number of domains, including the Productivity Commission Inquiry into Compensation and Rehabilitation for Veterans, the Female Veterans and Veterans’ Families Forum, and the Co-Design Session for the Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy and National Action Plan.
Prior to her academic career, Woodbury’s career in the Australian Army spanned Health roles with 7th Combat Service Support Battalion, 6th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment and as Officer in Charge Clinical Training Cell, 2nd Health Support Battalion. Her 13+ years in Army shaped her approach to leadership and strategic thinking.
Woodbury’s work in the defence and veterans’ domains includes:
1) Engagement and Innovation Grant to facilitate combined clinical training between ADF health professionals and QUT health undergraduates, which culminated in the inaugural QUT & Military: future health directions symposium;
2) Chief Investigator and Veteran Expert for the Department of Veterans’ Affairs Evaluation of Treatment Cycle Initiative: 3) finalist, Academic of the Year, Australian Defence Industry Awards and finalist, Women in Defence, Australian Defence Magazine Awards. Woodbury regularly engages across multiple social media platforms with Defence, Department of Veterans’ Affairs, and Australian Government ministers.
